Feedback from You

We have had a busy few weeks to the Chicago Sailing season. I actually looked forward to coming in today and the boats going out with their students. A moment of quiet time to catch up on our blog and other activities.

Sitting next to my desk are the course evaluations from our first batch of converted landlubbers. The sentence that sums it all up for me is, "Best sailing class ever!"

WOW - you can't buy better marketing.

Now in the digital age you can see all sorts of feedback online. Entire sites are devoted to user reviews, such as Yelp. These reviews help us do our jobs better. We hope that you will share your Chicago Sailing experiences with others and if you ever have an experience that does not match your expectations please tell us.

Opening Weekend 2009

Friday I arrived at B Dock to find the guys hard at work.

Bucko was washing off the boats.

Charlie was working on the rigging on our J/22's.

Donny was painting.

They made sure all was ready for our season start yesterday. We had 5 eager landlubbers arrive before 8:30 am to start their sailing adventure.

Rick Reed started his second season of instruction this weekend.

Sanjay Singh, who has been with us longer than the office staff can figure out, was also on hand to make sure our new sailors received expert instruction. Sanjay is helping Chicago Sailing train a new batch of instructors while Ronan is in Ireland.

As I write, we have one boat coming back in the harbor, a crock pot with sloppy joes to warm you up and a pot of coffee on. The view doesn't get much better than this, with the Hancock and Trump towers in the distance and a harbor that is waiting for the boats to return.

House Boat Delivery 2009

Last Thursday we snuck out of the office and hopped on board the Chicago Sailing on-season office. Starting at Green Dolphin Street, we motored down the river to the Loop, out the locks to the lake and up the lake to B Dock in Belmont Harbor.

It took us about 2 1/2 hours and a great time was had by all on board. Check out some of the photos, taken along the way.

The House Boat is now fully operational, so come stop by and see us.

Skiing and Sailing

Growing up my family skied. We went out west to the Rockies in Colorado, Wyoming and Canada pursuing our love of skiing as a family. In my hometown of Cazenovia, NY we belonged to the Cazenovia Ski Club.

In many ways, I am reminded of the ski club when I come to work at Chicago Sailing. By 4 pm each Saturday, most skiers would retire to the deck to throw their brats and burgers on the communal grill and open a beer, basking in the sunlight reflected off the A-frame's roof. (Well almost, Upstate NY is characterized by months-long periods of cloudy skies.)

A grill and beer sound familiar? Alan has already stocked the house boat for the first grilling of the season.

My father and I, and later my younger brother, took our skiing habit one step further converting to telemark skiing. With equipment, our club membership and ski vacations we had a very expensive family hobby. Was it worth it?
YOU BET!

Chicago Sailing is the summer version. All-ages take to the water, enjoying the sun and wind in their hair. And the best part about our company, we take care of the equipment. Our members get to show up and go enjoy fun and Lake Michigan without any hassle. (And no lift-lines.) Our boats are lined up and ready for the water. We hope you are too!
